About Us

Confident Communication was established by Richard Hull.

Richard started his career in the theatre - directing productions across the UK, Europe, and the USA.

Like so many of us, Richard wanted to change the world for the better, and he started using theatrical practices to support adults to successfully re-engage with the world of work after sustained periods of unemployment.

Always working with young people, his focus has continually been boosting their self-confidence and social skills for life beyond school. It was accidental that he directed Taron Egerton and Gwyneth Keyworth in their formative years on stage.

After a stint as a secondary teacher of Drama and then English, he was appointed as Director of the charity Talk The Talk. Over five years he expanded the reach of the charity across the UK – designing and developing a suite of oracy enrichment workshops that are delivered to tens of thousands of secondary students every year.

When truly developing any skill, real progress is only made over time. Richard’s ambition for Confident Communication is to deliver sustained intervention with impact. He is steadfast in his belief that that the fear of speaking in front of others must not be a barrier to social mobility or to achieving one’s potential in life.

He has run staff workshops for National Education Union, Ormiston Academies Trust, Teach First, Education Achievement Service, The Seren Network and dozens of secondary schools as well as delivering thousands of hours of workshops to young people across the world.

Our small team of workshop facilitators has been hand-picked by Richard based on their expertise, energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to equipping the next generation with the skill of confident communication.

Richard was pivotal in my becoming who I am today. He was committed to encouraging my self-confidence and his inclusive, perceptive approach is unyielding in nurturing all those he works with to view themselves with kindness, humour and potential.
